A late review, but here it is.
The Avengers must reunite when a killer and unstoppable A.I, Ultron, intends on eradicating humanity for good.
Many people say that you can’t get a sequel right and as good as the first one. There are outliers out there that prove otherwise, such as Star Trek into Darkness, but mostly the method applies all the time. For Avengers, Age of Ultron is in the middle. It doesn’t surpass Avengers’s awesomeness, but at the same time is an interesting psychological and status-changing entry into the comic-based universe.
Let’s start with the titular heroes first. Each one brings some interesting slices to the dinner table- Iron Man is naive, cap’s authoritative, black widow and hulk are in a relationship, Thor is incredibly buff, and Hawkeye definitely fits in quite well as the team’s jokester. Combine all that, and you have the regular dysfunctional family. The key difference, however, in this film is that the individual members are highlighted with side stories, like ideologies and family. Now, i know some people are against this, but these stories are okay with me.
The real meat, though, is Ultron. Unlike previous MCU, he’s really smart and complex. And he’s not stupid; Ultron’s not like Loki, someone who is so evil that he fails once the heroes prevail. Being a big threat to the team, and the earth, makes him probably the best villain we have seen yet
The only things i have problems with are two things: cut out scenes and a darker tone. Some great moments from trailers were cut out, making me feel a bit cheated. Luckily, it all worked out okay, but next time i hope a lot isn’t cut out again. And while the darker tone is not bad, it definitely strips the film of a lot of humor.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is not the best comic film, but it definitely is an intriguing one. For all the effort and awesomeness it generates, i’ll give it an 8/10.
